Has a year gone by so quickly? It seems like just yesterday I was starting the changes file for 2011, and now it is almost 2012. Well, let's finish the year off with a flourish!
To begin with, I'm pleased to announce that I have moved the primary location for my online blog/journal to the California Highways site. You can find it at http://blog.cahighways.org/. It covers a wide-variety of topics, from highway stuff, to observations on the news, to theatre and other media reviews, to just general observations on life. It will still be cross-posted to Livejournal and to Facebook, and folks are welcome to comment on entries whereever they see them. As always, you can keep up to date on the latest headlines related to California Highways by friending the California Highways Facebook group. I've set it up to get the regular Metro.Net headline posting, and I regularly highlight any highway related articles I find on the net. It is also your place to share news about California Highways, and I pick up that news from there for these updates.
Entries for the following routes were updated based on my reading of the papers (which are posted to California Highways Facebook group) as well as any backed up email changes. I also reviewed the the AAroads forum and misc.transport.road. This resulted in changes on the following routes, with credit as indicated [my research(1), contributions of information or leads (via direct mail or Usenet) from Paul D. DeRocco(2), Joel Windmiller(3):Route 1(1), Route 2(1), I-5(1), Route 12(1), I-15(1), Route 20(1), Route 24(1), Route 43(1), Route 52(1), Route 60(1), Route 65(1), San Bernardino County Sign Route 66(1,2), Route 71(1), Route 76(1), I-80(1,3), Route 82(1), Route 84(1), Route 91(1), Route 99(1), US 101(1), Route 128(1), Route 137(1), Route 145(1), Route 155(1), Route 156(1), Route 166(1), Route 168(1), Route 190(1), I-215(1), Route 216(1), Route 241(1), Route 245(1), US 395(1), I-580(1), I-680(1), I-710(1), and I-880(1).
Updated some information on the removal of call boxes in the Bay Area, based on this article.
Added a question in the FAQ on how to find accident information.
A response to a question I received resulted in the creation of a new county signed route: San Bernardino County Sign Route 66. Here's a picture. Basically, I'm the only repository left for the county route sign specifications for California Country routes.
Added a link to the 1961 California State Highway map posted by Mark Roberts. Most of these routes were as I expected, but these are really nice scans and really nice maps. I did add an inset map for LRN 222.
Reviewed the Pending Legislation page. The good news is that no new bills were introduced. No passages. Not much to see here, so I wonder how they were earning their pay the last two months.

It's late October. I'm sitting at my desk spending a day recording LPs to MP3 (right now, it is John Wesley Harding (Bob Dylan)), so it seems the perfect time to work on highway page updates. As always, you can keep up to date on the latest headlines related to California Highways by friending the California Highways Facebook group. I've set it up to get the regular Metro.Net headline posting, and I regularly highlight any highway related articles I find on the net. Right now, we're doing Herb Alpert and the TJB ("Lonely Bull") before going into Hot Tuna, so what better time to turn to legislative actions...
