In early January, most of the tribe treked up to YMCA Camp Whittle in the San Bernardino Mountains. All the girls wanted to see the snow, but (alas) La Nina left us with just a little on the ground. Making the best of what was there, the girls had fun with the sleds that the Chief brought, and attempted to throw snowballs (which didn't stick together).

The first to arrive was Running Rabbit and Red Cloud, with Little Bunny and Red Feather in tow. Red Sky got the heater going in the cabin, while Running Rabbit got everyone settled. Thunder Cloud and Golden Dove, and Chief Crazy Horse and Tiger Lily arrived shortly thereafter. The girls claimed the top bunks, while the dads claimed the bottom. The first night was late, with Little Bunny doing her best to keep everyone from getting to sleep.

Red Sky and Red Feather Shooting ArrowWe all woke up early Saturday morning. No one was quite sure why: was it Little Bunny waking up early, the various snorers in the tribe, or just that cold fresh mountain air. Standing Bear and Little Cub joined us before breakfast. After breakfast, we all went to the low ropes course, where John taught us how to swing to escape the molten lava and the Wild Josies. We also learned how working together as a team is stronger than working alone.

We then went to archery. All the girls attempted to shoot arrows. Some were better at it than others, but all had fun. The picture to the right shows Red Sky showing Red Feather the art of archery.

We then had lunch. Pizza! After lunch, we went back to the cabin and promptly collapsed. The girls insisted they were not tired, but by 1:30 PM, they were out like lights! They felt better after their naps.

At Arts and CraftsAfter everyone woke up, we went for a hayride and saw a bit more of the camp. We then went to Arts and Crafts, and made leather teepees. The image to the left shows Little Bunny, Golden Dove, and Tiger Lily working on their teepees under the watchful eye of Chief Crazy Horse. We also collected material for the scavenger hunt (we came in 3rd).

We then had dinner (Chicken). After dinner, we gathered for the nation campfire. Given how cold it was, we held the campfire in the dining hall. Many tribes did skits or songs. We did two songs. The first was a song the girls along the lines of "Joy to the World, the Pokemon are dead!". The second was an audience participation song ("I say, have you heard about Harry") taught by Thunder Cloud and Golden Dove about a fellow who just got back from the front.

Saturday night, we got to bed at a reasonable time, and no one wanted to get up in the morning. After breakfast, we packed. We then tried to find some snow to sled on. The Chief led us to a hill, and we all had fun going down on what little snow there was.

We are all looking forward to our next meeting at Red Sky's house.
